Lunch with The IndoTech Community in Singapore

Did you know that Indonesia is exporting not just palm oil but also talent? With over 9 million Indonesians working overseas, there’s a growing number joining Singapore’s tech scene.

In the middle of this digital migration, there’s a standout community called the IndoTech community in Singapore. Turns out, we Indonesians don’t just bring sambal sachet ABC and meme jokes. We also bring some serious tech skills.

Fresh off the Eid al-Fitr vibes, the IndoTech crew gathered for a post-Lebaran lunch at the iconic Lau Pa Sat this Monday. We grabbed tables to reconnect. Some shared stories, others casually pitched startup ideas between bites of chicken rice.

This isn’t some random group chat born from a late-night craving for bakso. It was founded around 2016 and has quietly grown to about 500 members, according to their LinkedIn page. Inside the group, people share everything from job openings and the best nasi padang to where to find meterai (yes, that elusive stamp duty) in Singapore.

It’s a private, invite-only circle. Think Crazy Rich Asians, but with way less family drama. I joined when I moved to Singapore, and honestly, it’s been incredibly rewarding. Through this community, I found not only a career coach and mentor but also friends who truly understand the ups and downs of being an immigrant in tech.

So yes, while the world watches tech giants rise and fall, somewhere between Changi and Woodlands, a group of passionate Indonesian techies are quietly building, connecting, and leveling up. One WhatsApp ping at a time.
