One of the best takeaways from my recent trips to San Francisco was a team session where we played with something called The Live Your Values deck.
This clever little deck was introduced by Pinterest’s Chief of Content, Malik Ducard. He shared how it has helped him gain clarity about what truly matters in his life.
So what is The Live Your Values deck, exactly? Think of it as a stack of seventy-three cards, each with a different value printed on one side, along with a short description.
Kind of like Pokémon cards, but for your soul. The idea is to help you identify your core values so you can live a life that feels more aligned with who you are. Pretty deep for a card game, right?
During our session, I picked my top ten values. Or so I thought. Turns out, it’s not that easy, and it depends on the mood.
After a couple more rounds (solo this time), I finally settled on these ten: gratitude, family, wisdom, spirituality, creativity, mindfulness, simplicity, success, career, and stability.
When I got back home, I brought three more sets for my family. We played together, and it was eye-opening. I got to see what each of them prioritizes in life. It sparked meaningful conversations and gave me a deeper understanding of them.
If you haven’t tried something like this before, I highly recommend it. Getting to know yourself a little better is always a good idea, especially if you’re chasing goals that truly matter.
Give it a shot, who knows, you might just discover your inner values.
