Earth Day Volunteering in Japan

When we were in Japan, we had a wonderful experience volunteering for the Earth Day celebration.

My office, Pinterest Japan, collaborated with Greenbird (https://www.greenbird.jp/), a Japanese non-government organization with a mission to make the city cleaner.

Our schedule to participate was on Friday, April 19th, starting around 3:30 pm. We walked around Shibuya to pick up some trash. One thing I learned is that in Japan, it’s common to sort the trash between organic and non-organic.

While trying to pick up the trash, I was scolded by someone after accidentally throwing their drink can while they were having a smoke. I took that as a funny experience.

Well, we didn’t have to do much because the city is so clean and the team is so efficient. We’re grateful to have been a part of it. If I were invited again, I would join. What an experience!
