A Weekend Retreat to Quench My Spiritual Thirst

Being a Muslim for 43 years hasn’t guaranteed that I fully understand the concept of submission. Fortunately, I recently came across a program hosted by Simply Islam Singapore that helped me reconnect with my faith.

The word “Islam” means submission to the will of God, yet I often find myself far from that ideal. With all the responsibilities and dreams I carry, I constantly strive for perfection. I struggle when things don’t unfold as I wish, leaving my soul feeling weary and drained in pursuing unattainable ideals.

In search of deeper understanding, I attended the “Awakening Ihsan” retreat—a transformative two-day experience filled with lectures, discussions, and the soulful expressions of Dhikr, Qasidah, and Mawlid. My iPad’s notepad was quickly filled with insights shared by the Ustadz and Ustadzah, shedding new light on concepts I thought I understood.

A heartfelt thank you to Ustadz Saleh for beautifully curating this program, Dr. Ali Hussain for reminding us of the profound connection between art and spirituality, Dato’ Aidit Ghazali for teaching us the power of dua and practical dhikr, Ustadz Mizi Wahid for reigniting our spirit, reminding us that while our journey of hijrah is full of trials, Allah SWT is always with us. Special thanks to Sister Ameera Aslam for her beautiful poem and for signing my book (such a special moment!). And to many others who made this experience unforgettable.

My soul has been nourished this weekend as if my spiritual thirst found an oasis through the program. It felt like I was reaffirming my Syahada, rediscovering the essence of my faith.

May Allah grant all the speakers Jannah for sharing their time and wisdom, and may He place barakah in every action.
