Capturing Stories, Building Confidence

Alhamdulillah, recently I made it to the top three favorites in a photo challenge capturing the stories of Blok M. Here’s what the jury said:

“As simple as a scene of a kid roller-skating with a mom or grandma by their side. It represents the vibe of ’80s/’90s teens passing on the roller-skating trend from back in the day, with one of the spots being around Blok M,” @gedebesar @potopotokota @fujishopid

I’m truly honored by this recognition. It’s given me a fresh perspective on how others view my work and helped me push through self-doubt. It’s a reminder to stay confident and trust the process.

I like to think of myself as a medium for Allah SWT’s blessings in this world. I do my best, but the results are ultimately in His hands. Whatever the outcome, it’s always what’s best according to Him. Patience and steadfastness are key.

A little backstory about how I started taking photography more seriously this year. My wife @veeasmoro has been in the photography business for over five years, and I’d always just observed from the sidelines. Earlier this year, after we came back from Japan, I decided to jump in and got myself a Fuji X-S20 camera, which uses the same battery as her X-H2 but is more budget-friendly.

My focus with photography is capturing everyday moments. I added a Fujinon 18mm lens to my kit, alongside the 18-55mm lens, making my setup more compact and travel-friendly.

Building confidence has been a big theme for me this year. Along the way, I’ve also learned to be more open to feedback. It’s a humbling yet rewarding process. I’m still a work in progress, and perfection belongs only to Him.
