As an Indonesian living in Singapore, I feel grateful for the chance to learn from world-class professionals. Recently, I attended an inspiring networking event titled “Networking for Career Success in Singapore,” organized by the Indonesian Professionals Association (IPA Singapore) and the Singapore Global Network.
This event featured seven top professionals from various industries who shared powerful insights on navigating Singapore’s competitive job market. The roundtable format made the session engaging and personal—each group had 20 minutes to interact with each expert. Most attendees were Indonesian university students in Singapore, eager to ask honest and practical career questions.
Key takeaways from the event:
-
Follow your passion—but also follow the money.
-
Start building your network early—identify key people in your industry.
-
Be visible: stand out, be authentic, and start conversations.
-
Understand cultural differences—this helps you adapt in global workplaces.
-
Be a problem-solver—bring solutions, not just problems.
For Indonesian students and professionals in Singapore, this type of event is a golden opportunity to grow your network, learn local insights, and develop your career in Singapore’s fast-paced environment.
A big thank you to all the experts; Cynthia Salim, Melvin Sutrisno, Monica Hynds, Nikolas Wangsaputra, Albert Ng, Mickey Jane Salim, and Matthew Jacobus, who shared their experiences with us.
It was a humbling and valuable learning experience!
