I bought When You Think You’re Falling during a weekend Islamic class in October 2024. The book is written by Ameera Aslam, and I was lucky to meet her in person. She even signed my copy, which made it even more special. I finished reading it last year, but just yesterday, someone in my book club mentioned it, and that made me want to revisit it.
Reading this book feels like listening to an older sister share her stories. The way Ameera writes is so heartfelt and relatable. She also breaks down Arabic words in simple English, which helped me understand them better.
For example, in chapter two, she explains the meaning of taubat (or tawbah/tobat), which translates to repentance. She breaks it down to its Arabic root letters, ta-ba, meaning “to go back.” That means repentance is not just a one-time event, but something we go through again and again.
This book is full of beautiful reminders, and I find myself coming back to it whenever I need one. Like I said, it feels like getting advice from a big sister, one that gently reminds you to turn back to Allah SWT. I highly recommend it!
