Tradition Finds a Way in Singapore

The Hari Raya feeling is still lingering in Singapore. I took out my camera, and it brought me to a weekend filled with simple joy.

Kebaya and Baju Kurung have been everywhere lately. You see them during house visits, worn with pride and a bit of festive sparkle.

On Saturday morning, I used my time to capture a fun run organised by PlusSantai. It is not a competition, just people running in kebaya, smiling like they have nothing to prove. The colours of the kebaya stood gently against the calm morning around the Sultan Mosque. Laughter floated through the streets. I could not help but smile behind the camera.

I would recommend visiting the area in the morning. Walk through the alleys and enjoy the murals around Haji Lane and Bali Lane. The area is usually crowded with tourists, but not in the early hours. You can end your walk with lontong sayur and teh tarik for breakfast at Kampong Glam Cafe.

I did my Dhuha and Istikharah at the Masjid Sultan. A quiet pause, just for myself. A moment for solitude, while the rain drizzled softly outside.

My Saturday continued with another scene.

A couple dressed in traditional Malay wedding attire at the National Gallery Singapore. The setting felt almost cinematic. Grand colonial buildings stood still, while tradition took the spotlight in the present moment. Maybe that is the beauty of Singapore. Tradition does not disappear; it adapts, it lives on.
